Mama Needs A Minute (February - Iceland)

Day 1

After not getting much sleep on the plane, we landed in Iceland and made the 45 minutes to Reykjavik.  We got to our hotel, dropped our bags, freshened up, and headed downstairs for breakfast.  I went back upstairs, climbed under the covers, and slept.  Guys, I seriously was OUT.  Shout out to Parliament Hotel - the most comfy bed and pillows!!

My tour of the city was cancelled - no one else signed up, so I had to take a later tour regarding Iceland Folklore.  I decided to walk around a bit on my own, but being unfamiliar with the city, I didn’t go too far.  Jessica was interested in Rainbow Street when we looked at pictures, so I made sure I went there first.  Then I headed to Hallgrímskirkja Church since that was on my list.  I went back toward the hotel, since that’s where the tour was meeting and stopped for a late lunch at 101 Bistro for fish & chips, which can be found almost everywhere!  The service was great and fast.  The food was hot and crispy - very nice after being out in the cold.

Then, I was on my way to Ingolfstorg Square, which was literally right next door.  I met my guide for the Folklore Tour - shout out to Einir, who gave a good tour to the four of us, telling the odd and sometimes gory stories of Iceland.  It tuns out the hotel I’m currently staying at is haunted, though.  Apparently the park behind the Parliament Hotel used to be a cemetery and they supposedly did not move all the bodies.  Thanks for those fluffy thoughts!  There were tales of lots of devils, trolls, elves, ghosts, and fairies.  After 2 hours of walking in the snow, I was ready to call it a day.

However, when I got back to the hotel, we decided go try our luck outside of town looking for Northern Lights since the forecast didn’t look good for our scheduled tour on Thursday.  What luck!  We found them about 45 minutes outside of town!!  I’m glad I got to see them since so few people do, but I have to say, they were not what I thought they were they’d be.  Had I not been with other people who pointed them out, I would have written them off as fog, smoke, or dirt on the very dirty windshield.  They were grey in color and kinda wispy.  In pictures, they have color - I know, I did not do my research.  I’ve just seen pictures with people talking about how excited they were.  So, I’ll share mine with you.  These are the ones I took with my iPhone literally standing on the side of the street.
