Mama Needs A Minute (February - Date Night)

Its Winter Break, so both girls are out of school this week and after 3 days of potty training Jenna, I was really in need of a few hours with adults. The hubby and I left tonight for dinner and a concert.

He made a reservation at Rays on the River. It had been about 4 years since we’d been there and I had honestly forgotten how amazing the atmosphere, the service, and the food were. Shout out to Ryan, who upon finding out we were kid-free for the night made sure that we had great adult beverages, fresh hot food, and a great dining experience! If you’re going to get an adult beverage, I highly recommend the Eye Candy - so yummy! To start, we had drinks and the cheese fritters. We each had the scallops and a creme brule corn side to share. We also split a creme brule for dessert!

From there, we headed to Cobb Energy Center to see Dwight Yoakam. First off, Cobb Energy Center is probably one of my favorite venues for anything. It is super easy to get in and out, the parking is easy and cheaper than most places, and there’s no clear bag policy. We found our seats on the Mezzanine section and anxiously waited for the show to start.

First up was Dwight’s special guest RVSHVD (pronounced RA-SHAD), which I have to make sure I give him mention for a few reasons: 1) He’s a local - born in raised in Willacoochee, GA. 2) He wrote a song with Travis Tritt in it. Growing up in GA in the 90’s, Travis Tritt was “it” for me! 3) He sampled Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down. Atlanta really welcomed him - he received a standing ovation from the lower level seating even before he was finished!

Dwight Yoakam came on at 9:30pm - no introduction and no words. He just walked up to the microphone and started singing! From where we were sitting, he honestly hadn’t changed since the 90’s. His voice still sounded the same, he dressed the same, and still had the same moves, which sent the crowd screaming. His band was equally impressive. I’ve tried looking up who is playing with him this tour since we had to leave before he made the introductions and I cannot find the specific person I wanted to mention, so he will remain nameless. I do have a video I will post on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok - y’all this guy practically played everything (accordian, fiddle, keyboards, tambourine, and steel guitar - sometimes changing throughout the same song and even playing multiple instruments at once! Again, we had to leave before the concert was over to get home to relieve the babysitter, so I can’t tell you how it ended, but the 70 minutes we got to see Dwight was great!

Side note: I said I’d share the good and the bad, so here goes for tonight - Cobb Energy Center’s sound was off tonight - the music was too loud and distorted. Sometimes, I couldn’t tell what song was being sung right away. Also, and this is just from an older person who is also a parent, but why do concerts start so late?? This isn’t a complaint about any venue or artists in particular, but just an observation I’ve come to realize since I’ve had kids and had a hard curfew. When the headliner doesn’t come on until 9:30pm and you have to relieve the babysitter at 11pm, its hard to justify the ticket fees for an hour. Yes, I could book a babysitter longer, but then its more money and honestly when I make it home at 11pm and unwind then the kids get me up before 7am, I’m tired - I don’t know if I can handle staying out much later!
